2nd Christmas
As we celebrate Kris 2nd Christmas with us, we went around Orchard, Christmas tree hunting when time permits.
Seeing the brightly colored lights dangling on the trees excites her and with her new found skill she walked round various malls and go gaga over the festive season decoration.

First Few Words
As Kris starts to get aware of her surrounding, she also starts to pick up a few of our daily words.
She also starts to know how to nod or shake her head when she is in agreement or in disagreement.
This is a relief for us as we do scratch our heads at times trying to understand her.
She learnt so much just from observing us! Everyday is a learning experience.
Some of her first word
Bear
Bread
Hel....lo
Bye
PaPa
Bed
Car
Milk
Oh Oh

Biting Others
At 15 months, Kris has a habit of bitting herself and others. That include her daddy. She bites herself when she gets frustrated or angry.
Some examples
When she cant get the scooter out of the play area as the wheels got stuck, she bites the handle of the scooter and yell for someone to help.
When she gets scolding for wrong doing, she burst out in tears and when everyone ignore her, she resort to biting her own arm.
She bites her cousins when they try to carry her by force when she disrupt their toys, when they sit on my legs and try to "share" her mummy, when they try to hug her forcefully or when they sit together quietly watching television.
Some punishment she gets when she bit others are
Counseling timeout with daddy and mummy
Scolding from mummy
Mummy stern looks
Flicking of the cheeks
I guess she knows when I get angry with her as she trys to coos up and cuddle me when I stare at her. She can sense my anger vibes.
I wonder what other ways can I tell her not to bite others.

Staycation @ Equarius in Sentosa
We decided to book a 3D2N RWS package as part of my husband, A and my birthday. There were four hotels to choose from: Hotel Michael, Festive Hotel, Hard Rock and Equarius. We decided on Equarius as it seem to be a cosy and quiet hotel, away from the others.
The package come with 2 adult passes to Universal Studio, Adventure Cove and SEA Aquarium.
Verdict
With a toddler, it's difficult to utilize all the passes in 3 days. With only time to cover 1 attraction per day, we decided to forgo the Adventure Cove tickets as we bought Kris to the swimming pool instead.
The package does not come with breakfast so either you bring your own breakfast or have your breakfast at one of the many choices in RWS.
Although Equarius is spacious and quiet, it's quite inconvenient as compared to Hard Rock or Hotel Michael as we need to take a shuttle to the attraction points or the main RWS. The waiting time for the shuttle is about 15 minutes.
Remember to dress light and bring a mini fan to keep both youself and the kid cool in Singapore humid weather.
Kris lost her food appetite on the day of Universal Studio. I guess it's the weather. I replaced her food with milk and keep her constantly hydrated. During dinner time, she is back to her usual bubbly and hungry self.
Though there are not much rides suitable for Kris at Universal Studio, she had an amazing time at Lights, Camera, Action as the stage came alive with sound effects
Shrek 4D as the chair rocked, water and air squeaked and blew and cartoon start protraying on the big screen. She sat in my arms throughout the 5 mins Shrek 4D show quietly!
Madagascar Carousel as the wooden animal revolve around the platform and she was rising up and down with the other children laughing in the background
Taking pictures with numerous mascots
Watching dance parade
Walking around the various gift shops
Exploring the different setup between the different zones
Take around your sand digging tools and spend the morning lazing in the various different pools at Hard Rock Hotel.
Bring some extra drinks and snack for yourself. This is super handy as you reward yourself after the kids gets knocked out for the day. A and I cleaned off 2 huge packets of Calbee Hot and Spicy chips in 2 days.
The hotel bath tub is also an interesting attraction area for the little one. Every morning, Kris would walked into the bathroom and stood on her toes and point to the bath tub indicating her interest. Maybe a day spent relaxing in the room sound good for both mummy and daddy and the little one.

Adventure Cove @ Sentosa
Bought Kris to our company annual family day at the Adventure Cove Waterpark which is an aquatic adventure park located in Sentosa. As Kris barely reaches the minimum height for most of the attraction points, we ended up juggling our time between the adventure river, wave pool and the seahorse hideaway.
The adventure river take about 20 minutes to complete the river. I grabbed a tube and have Kris on my lap while my husband, A was helping us maneuver the tube through the bands, currents and slight waterfall. Kris was relaxed throughout the journey and enjoyed the scenes which includes tropical jungle garden, bat enclosure, stingray and manta rays, sharks, dolphins. She enjoyed the slow current and hearing the light drizzle in the backdrop.
We had her at the shallow end of the wave pool for fear of the strong wave. As the sirens honked, the waves came along and we jumped with the wave and that will also meant swallowing some water which had Kris clutching tightly to us.
Seahorse hideaway is a shallow pool of around 0.3m which is just the right height and size for waddling toddlers. The pool bed is also lined with foamy sponge which is an excellent idea. Luckily, I bought some disposable cups for Kris to scoop and pour the water. We spent a good 30 minutes frolicking and had Kris walking a few steps in the pool.
There was also an area near the rainbow reef where there are patches of sand pits for the kids to play. Kris finally mustered enough courage to step/ grab the sand. She was soon grabbing the sand and burying my feet, thanks to my husband. We took turns burying one another and stomping on our mini sand castles. Do bring along your sand digging tools if you intend to spend some time here.
As the sky darkens, we decided to call quits after 2 hours.
The kids shower area were filled with 4 shower cubicles however the water shower indication of hot and cold water either malfunctioned or didn't exist.

First time Dad and Mum
My husband, A and I have trained our human ears to be ultra sonic where we are able to hear her cries or sense her movement from a distance.
Family support is so important especially if you are a working mum or needed an occasional time off.
An occasional ME time is absolutely fine and you do not have to feel guilty about leaving the kid with another caretaker.
Be patient. Kids under 2 years old are unable to portray their emotions and more often than not crying is their only source of venting their frustration, anger, grouchiness etc. When Kris was younger, she will cry for no reason at times. When carrying and feeding didnt sastify her, her cries became louder, I became frustrated at time but over time I thought of ways to pacify her such as singing, rocking or carrying her. It's works and It's not true that kids will be pampered if you do these too often. As kids grows, she no longer needs us to carry her as she prefer to crawl.
Eat our meal at extraordinary speed or on rotating meal time. What we took for granted in the past seem so precious now as we squeeze our occasional alone time to have a couple meal.
Keeping the house tidy and neat is impossible. With a young explorer around, they are always rummaging the table, drawers, throwing magazine / remote controls on the floor. Their toys are constantly scattered around.
Training of our vocals. Both A and myself are one step away from being professional singers as both of us are constantly singing (songs that we made up or actual nursery rhymes) to Kris to pacify her to sleep or to entertain her.
Corner guards are so important as they learn to crawl and walk.Corner guards helps to prevents bruises or serious bumps on their tiny little body. The edge of my bedroom wall used to be guard free until one fine day Kris decides to crash into the wall and there she goes bawling her heart out. In the next few week, she was spotted with a long blue streak of bruise.
You will not be able to sleep past 8am. Late morning once again seem so precious. Kris decides to be our alarm clock and will scream for our attention when she wakes up.. Weekdays or Weekends.. Urghhh
Do not plan too far ahead as you may not be able to keep up. More often than not, our plans with friends, family outing, Kris schooling plans have to be changed due to circumstances change. Do plan but also do take things as they changes.
Preparing for a outing is no longer simple as you need to prepare for her diaper/clothes change, meals, etc.
However, watching Kris grows has been the most wonderful experience. She grew from a tiny quiet baby to a curious, happy and vocal infant. Slow down princess.

First pair of shoes
I sprawled the internet for information on the type of pre-walker shoes that are suitable for Kris.
Checklist for pre-walker shoes
As infant feet are constantly developing, it's important that they get a roomy and soft pair of shoes that does not constrain the growth of their feet yet provide them adequate support and comfort.
Soles should be soft and flexible.
We brought Kris to various shoe shops where I tried to find the prefect shoe. There are some shoes that sell soles that are so hard that they will break if I bend them. Wee ended up at Mothercare, our trusted baby shop and Kris goes gaga over the selection of toys while I go gaga over the range of pre-walker shoes. Mothercare carries a range of prewalker shoes ranging from S$40 to S$80 depending on the brand and materials of the shoes. After much deliberation and fittings,we decided on a pair of White Mary Jane with Velcro closure from Pediped. It cost about $60 for a tiny pair of shoe, I exclaimed! How expensive kids stuff are in Singapore.
The downside to this pair of shoes are it's velrco bands which I thought it meant easier for us to wear these shoes on Kris. However, it ended with... It's easier for her to remove the shoes!

First Plane Ride
My husband, A and I couldn't decide on our first plane destination with Kris. The conditions that we have in mind are that is near home yet enjoy the convenience of a bustling city. After much deliberation, we decided on Hong Kong in autumn with our family.
I allocated a tiny portion of the luggage space for A at which he grumbled whether do we need to bring so much kids stuff over. I sweared that i didn't pack alot of stuff for a 6 days trip. Things that I packed consisted of the following which i found it absolutely necessary just that I mis-calculated the quantity needed. I'm new at this. Practice makes perfect!
Diapers
Pack foods
Cereals
Milk Powder
Bowls
Spoons
Disposable Bibs
Clothes
Books
Toys
Pillow
Blankets
Mosquito patches
Sun block
Other face and body products
Kris was in tip top condition during the entire trip or we may have tired her out by staying out till 10 plus pm daily, Not sure why but her appetite increases whenever we are overseas. She does not need much coaxing each night and will stay in bed till 8 plus am which is a bonus for us as well.
Plus points with traveling with the family are that we always have one another to look out for, we can take turns taking our breakfast or caring for the little ones, if you forget something you can always rely on the others, photo taking is also much easier with so many facing coaxing Kris at the other end. Kris had a marvelous time bonding with her cousins. They were always rolling around on the hotel bed, hugging each other, making funny faces to one another and most important of all, they were able to self entertain themselves.
It's amazing that with 3 kids on tow, the adults can still shop and hauled back tons of stuff. We bought an extra luggage to contain all our buys. What can I say!
Verdict
Be prepared to take turns having meal on the plane. A and I had to take turns entertaining Kris and rotating during meal times. This meant NO inflight entertainment for us as Kris will tug at our headset or glued herself in front of the screen. Kris also refused to sleep during the entire journey and was busy trying to wriggle out of our arms wanting to venture down the aisle byyy crawling. She's also being very sociable with other passengers, stewards and stewardess.
Pack an extra set of clothes for yourself. You may spilled food and drinks during the flight. Yes, that's exactly what happened to me and I didn't have an extra set of clothes!
I told A that we will not be coming to Hong Kong with Kris in the near future. It wasn't such a child friendly place especially in down town and malls. Nursery rooms are locked in malls and you had to contact the customer service center to unlock the doors. Even in the airport, the nursery room wasn't always readily available, in the transit area, there's only one nursery room per level. Not all restaurant were equipped with high chairs or children cutlery. Often, the high chairs comes without a buckle. Kris easily climb out of the chair in no sec. In the airport, Kris was served with disposable plastic container and spoon as children cutlery. Using the MTR (Subway) with a stroller in tow was also challenging as not all MTR station has escalator or lift located at their many exits.
Ocean Park is a wonderful place for kids. The facilities such as nursery room are well equipped and abundances. There are also so many stuff to learn, play and interact. We learnt much about penguin, fox and sharks at their enclosure and had fun at the carousel station which Kris grew bored after a while of spin. However, if you want to leverage on all the ride, your kids should be around 6 years before they reach the minimum height. Traveling with kids also gives you priority to some of the attraction area which is a blessing for us under the roaring sun.
I wouldn't recommend Noah's Ark. We left the place after about 2 hours. There isn't much to play or interact as the exhibition is merely about the story of Noah's Ark which could be easily goggled on the internet. Our most enjoyable station in Noah's Ark is at the photo-taking booth. The park opposite Noah's Ark was also a disappointment. A was attracted by the flies in the park!
September month is still too warm for us especially for the little ones. Next destination will be some where cooler.
For dried seafood, you could make a trip to Tai O Village where it's famous for salty duck eggs and shrimp paste. We bought lots of dried seafood from this place at an affordable price.

MMR
Kris got her MMR jab the very next day after our return to Singapore. She didn't yell as much as we predicted during the vaccination and we thought yeah we are off for a good start.
One hour back home, she started to vomit out her breakfast! Another hour later, she became hungry and wanted some milk. Bad move I guess. After her milk fix, she started to vomit out all the milk. This time round, on me. Urghhh, I desperately need a bath but she was yelling badly as her father carried her away. Fear of her vomiting again, I took over without having a bath! Oh gosh! Two of us just hurdled together in vomit. Thankfully, she slept within 15 minutes of rocking. Off to the shower I rushed while she slept in her soiled clothes.
Two hours later, she woke up. This time round by her rumbling stomach and she had loose stools. I was petrified! I goggled to check on the symptoms of the vaccination. These symptoms that she was suffering wasn't informed to us by the clinic. I called my Sister, Jo who is an expert in child bringing. We were advised that the MMR vaccination is the worst kind as children develop different symptoms. My niece, R developed high fever while my other niece, K suffered from nightmares for a week. My nephew, A developed diarrhea that smelled like sewage refuse. That's the exact same smell with Kris poo. I felt comforted.
Dinner time is coming.... I wondered what can she eat. I heard from my mum that porridge water is good for curing diarrhea and prevent dehydration. I boiled some grains with water for 30 minutes. I offered Kris a spoonful of soup and waited, she smacked her lips and open a tiny crack to taste. Next, she widen her mouth. Ok, she likes this! After 10 plus mouthful, she decided to call it quit.
She resumed her playfulness nature till bed time and I thought the worst was over in fact the worst was yet to come. I diluted her bedtime milk, however after a while she vomited all out again. Time for a pajamas change!
The next day, she woke up with slight reddish eye lids with no sight of red eye. As the day progressed, her eyelids becomes redder with some greenish discharge, and her body feel warm but she was not running a fever. Her vomit and diarrhea spells stopped. She looked lethargic with droopy eyes. She spent her day sleeping mostly.
She woke up the next few days with her eyelids glued with discharge. She was also lethargic and didn't resume her playfulness over the next few days. We decided to bring her to the doctor when her left eye also started to get reddish eyelids. The doctor advised that its due to dust and germs and not due to MMR. All these came too coincidentally together. The doctor prescribed us some eye drops which it's always a struggle dripping into Kris eyes.
One week later, she resumed back her usual self! Screaming, crawling and being playful.
Today is the 8 day after her vaccination and I hope the normal usual symptoms will not come at all!

1st Birthday Blast Part 2
We celebrated Kris actual day at Bumba Gump, Hong Kong which is located at the peak. This restaurant sells mainly seafood cooked in various style. We reached at around 6pm and the restaurant was starting to get crowded. Thankfully, we got a table in less than 15 mins. We ordered a plate of ribs, 3 style shrimps, berries salad, seafood both, grilled dory fish, mac and cheese and finally for our dessert, we ordered a mixture of their house favourite. They also have a wide selection of drinks. My niece ordered a Bubblegum mix. It was serve in a "disco" light glass. She was delighted!
For each birthday celebration, the restaurant will throw in a complimentary sundae. Kris was amused and in shocked watching the entire entourage of staff singing Happy Birthday to her.
Happy Birthday Sweetie. Daddy and Mummy love you.

1st Birthday Blast Part 1
We celebrated this gorgeous day with our immediate family at Tunglok. This restuarant is known for its amazing Peking duck. We have a private room to ourselves which is good so that the children can run around the area.
We had an enjoyable lunch followed by a cupcake celebration for Kris. She enjoyed and laughed when we sung her the HAPPY BIRTHDAY song.
Next we headed to Kiddy Fun, an indoor playground located on the 3rd floor of The Grandstand. It's amazing how The Grandstand had transform itself from Turf City to a place filled with hype. The admission fee is $12 for below 18 mths and $18 for above 18 mths. Weekend are limited to 2 hours playtime. The cousins had a blast running here and there while Kris had her share of fun climbing up and down the stairs and zipping through the various tunnels.
Kiddy Fun is tasty and safely decorated with pastel colored jumbo play mats. There are lots of play stuff for the children such as mini merry go round, swings, balloons, spring balls, tunnels, tampolin etc.
We decided to call it a day after 90 mins as we were exhausted but not the children or rather they pretend not to.
10 mins on the way home and after her milk fix, Kris was soon snoring away.

Recycle & Reuse Ideas
Some D.I.Y toys for Kris. Time
to teach her the concept of recycle and reuse + creative ways to homemade
toys. Plus, it's a real saver for both mummy and daddy.
Shakers
What you need: Large empty plastic bottles and caps.
How: (1) Throw in some caps into the bottle (2) Decorate the bottles with stickers
This can be used as shakers as part of of her music playtime or for her to improve on pinch and drop skills. Pinching a cap and throwing into the bottle each time. The caps are big enough to ensure that she does not swallow the bits.
Boxes
As Mid-Autumn festival is round the corner, there are various kinds of beautifully decorated boxes. It's a waste to throw them away, so I offered Kris one and she soon gets busy opening and closing the box, drumming and singing away.
Flash caps
What you need: Caps + stickers
How: (1) Stick the stickers on the caps
These can be used as tools for her recognize the items and have her easily pick up the pieces.
Plastic Cups
What you need: 2 different coloured plastic cups
She could drum / rub / bang on each cups for different sound effect and have the cups over her ears for some echos.
Have fun!

Mid - Autumn Festive
We saw this
mid autumn community flyer in our neighborhood and decided to participate. As this is our first community event, my
husband, A is very enthusiastic. He rushed to buy the entrance
tickets for fear of sold out signs as this is Kris first Mid Autumn celebration with us. He was beaming with pride as he announced to me that he grabbed those last few tickets.
On the actual day, we thought that we will miss the event as Kris had her afternoon nap later. However, she woke up just in time as the sun sets. The weather was breezy and the event was conveniently situated near our residence. Wow, I exclaimed when i saw the crowd and felt the ambiance. Live performances are being performed on stage and rows of chairs are neatly arranged and available for residents. There are also photo booth, balloons booth and Chinese riddle booth to keep the children and adults occupied.
It was heartwarming seeing so many familiar faces around the event. We collected our goodie bag which consist of a handheld paper lantern (nowadays the lantern comes with LED light. What an ingenious idea!), a mini moon cake, a MAC box consisting of a plain chicken burger and apple pie, a bottle of water, a note pad. What a lot of goodies for a $3 tickets, I thought.
We had fun at the photo booth with the many props available and Kris had her share of fun playing with the balloons that are painstakingly blew up and twisted by the volunteers. She was yapping with joy once she lay her hand on those balloons.
We went back around 9pm but A decided to stay for the luck draw which fortunately he did.
Verdict
A very well
planned and executed event with plenty of stuff going on
Kris is
still playing with the balloons after 3 days, what can I say

Kid's Amaze @ SAFRA Toa Payoh
Kris first visit to an indoor playground was fantastic! She was jumping and yelling with excitement just watching other kids having fun from behind the glass panels. she kept pointing in as if urging us to bring her in this very second.
The infant play area (suitable for 0 till 36 months) is huge (about the size of a 5 room flat). The room is spacious and brightly lit. There are many different areas such as (1) 2 mini obstacles course for the kids to crawl / roll through mini tunnels, waves and various little humps (2) mini ball pool for kids to practice sitting (3) huge plastic animals are plaster on the floor for the kids to climb or practice cruising on them (4) a huge tree house cum mini slide (5) many flip boards are also plaster on the walls.
The walls and floors are covered with foamy cushions thus not afraid that the little walkers or crawlers will fall and injure themselves. In the background, music float around the room. Parents can either lounge themselves on the long benches located on either side of the room or roll and dance with the kids around the room.
The moment we entered the playground, Kris wriggled out of my arms and slide down to grab the many brightly colored balls that were littered all around. She spent her time wandering around the room, grabbing and throwing the balls, crawling in and out of tunnels, sliding up and down the slides, flipping the various flip boards and interacting with other kids. She was filled with excitement, screaming and laughing as we rolled on the floor and slides with her. We literately have to drag her out of the facility after 90 minutes. We were exhausted but not Kris!
There is also a well equipped nursing room within Kids Amaze which is fantastic but there is only one arm chair for breastfeeding. After her milk fix, Kris was soon snoring away smiling.
We will be back sweetie.
The infant play area (suitable for 0 till 36 months) is huge (about the size of a 5 room flat). The room is spacious and brightly lit. Clothings
However, our favorite pieces comes from the many unique dresses, shorts, tops that my sister Jo sews for Kris. They are so lovely that I hope that she will soon start sewing for me too. Kris looks absolutely adorable wearing these pieces. Thank you sister Jo.

Botanic Garden
Decided on a sun filled theme today, so we bought Kris to her first visit to the Botanic Garden.
Upon reaching the garden, she was bewildered by the number of tourists queuing up and snapping all kinds of candid shots with the man-made mini waterfall while her daddy was busy looking out for mini squirrels hopping from tree to tree. We stood there for a good 10 minutes. We proceeded to Halia Restaurant for our lunch, we were given an al fresco area, Kris sat there for a good 1 hour eating her pumpkin + carrot + apple lunch pouch, munching star bites, bread and feasting on the surrounding crowd. Lunch was a good start!
We decided on a stroll down the symphony lake to burn all the calories. We were admiring at the turtles, fishes swimming in the lake. Children were busy feeding the turtles and fishes, while Kris was busying studying the expressions of the children. This is one of her favourite hobby.
15 minutes later, to our dismay we heard the thunder and felt the drizzle! Urghhh, here goes our excursion! We have to run back to the car while Kris was screaming at the sudden change of plans. We will come again, we assured her. Nothing seem to work except for the bribe of star bites. Kids!

K Birthday celebration
We went to New Majestic Hotel to celebrate my niece, K 2nd birthday. The hotel was an amazing sight located in Chinatown. The hotel lobby was beaming of heritage, design and color. The kids had
so much fun with all the chic, odd shaped and brightly colored chairs and to add
additional flavor, there is a colorful trishaw that totally caught our
attention. We had an amazing time climbing in and out of the trishaw, taking photos and running around the spacious lobby.
The restaurant was located next to the lobby which makes it ultra easy for the kids to run around within the watchful eyes of grand parents and parents. The dishes were all nicely presented and tasted delicious expect that it's a tad salty. Next time, we need to ask the cook to go low on salt!
As Mid-Autumn festival is round the corner, the older folks were busying trying out it amazing line of moon cakes.
Happy Birthday K.

Sound of Music
Bought Kris to her second trial at Kindermusik, she enjoyed
herself tremendously listening to the powerful vocal of teacher S, dancing to the
rhythm of the different tunes of songs, touching and playing with the different
type of instruments such as shakers, drums etc and most important of all she fitted right
into the session the moment we stepped in!
She was cooperative with no hints of
tantrum nor grouchiness throughout the 45 minutes. We were sold! This trial is a far cry from the first one we attended when she was 6 months.
The session started off with a few of the usual activities: (1)
Free play where the kids are given "roaming" time to interact and play with the
loosely scattered colored stretch balls. After 5 minutes, the balls are quickly
packed away. (2) Everyone will then be sited into a big circle and sing the
“welcome” song, where each kid choose its own action style and sing to the
tune. Kris absolutely adore this session, she was bouncing, clapping, laughing
and staring at teacher S and her newly acquired friends.
After which, the activities for the week started. This week,
we handled egg shakers, drums, colorful pieces of cloth and sing and bounced
to Chugga Chugga train and other songs.
I would range the involvement of parents to kid participation as 8: 2.
The session ended with bubbles blowing which is one of the
kids favorite activity. Kris was busy popping the bubbles and was screaming at
the sight of freshly formed bubbles. One suggestion though, the studio should invest in an automatic bubble blower instead.
Verdict
The lesson was a cosy session with no more than 8 infants
and the good thing is that both papa and mama are able to join. There are some
places which only allow 1 parent participation.
Time passes too fast, lesson should be extended to 1 hour
instead.
After the session, I didn’t feel as exhausted as I thought I
would be.
Kris was still fully engaged after the session, still ready
for more.
We signed up for the village program which is designed for
newborns to 18 months, however from my personal opinion registering the child
earlier then 7-8 months is not beneficial as the kid crawling skills in not
developed to roam around the classroom setting. They will instead rely more on
parents during activity time, suckle on their fingers and toes, drool continuously and put
everything in sight into their mouth, at least that is what happened to Kris during her
first trial.
Each term consist of 8 lessons and cost $345 + $68 for
materials (which I felt is too pricy) + $38 for registration fee. The materials
depending on the theme of the term consist of a musical instrument, a board
book, flash cards and a CD-ROM consisting of all the songs that will be covered
for the term.
After we went back to the car, we played the CD. Kris absolutely
love the music flowing in the background, she sat there quietly
listening to the music. Yeah, no more screaming Kris I thought, but urghhh
after 30 minutes, she started yelling and yes screaming Kris is back to
terrorize us.
