We decided on Vietnam as the destination for our 4D3N family trip and booked
Shell Resort as recommended by our cousin-in-law.
Verdict
Our direct flight with Vietnam airline was cancelled 2 days prior to our department and we have to enroute through Ho Chi Minh Airport which made the duration of travel extend from 2 hours to 7 hours. Totally urghhh. Kris was already fast asleep by the time we reached the resort.
Accommodations are mored suited for couples without children. We were welcomed by a team of friendly staff upon our arrival. The reception areas looks clean and vast with its open concept idea. Our room are suited on level 2. Do note that there are no lift available here. We were welcomed by a spacious marbled bath tub the instant we opened the doors to our room.
The wet bath and WC are separated from one another being at opposite ends of the room.
There is a step down from the bathing area / kitchen area to the sleeping area.
The edge of the shelves, bath tubs, steps, tables, bed frame are all squared corners. My nephew got his first bruise when jumping on the bed and knocked against the edge of the wooden bed frame. Ouch! Kris had her first fall when she missed the step from the bathing area down to the sleeping area.
The bathroom tiles are NOT made of anti-slip materials, Kris slipped while showering one day as well.
The bedside switches are located near the floor, Kris had a busy time clicking away.
The pool area is fantastic. It was spacious and almost empty most of the day. There is a shallow and deeper area. Kris and her cousin are able to venture the shallow area by themselves (Of course with adult supervision).
The beach is located next to the pool which made it ultra convenient to venture from one area to the another.
There is only one restaurant in the resort. The breakfast spread is fantastic with a wide array of choices. Overall, I would give the restaurant 4/5. The food is fantastic, the staff are friendly and the area is clean with live band each night. Kris and her many cousins danced to the rhythm of the music.
The weather was horrifingly hot. The sun was scorcing our skin and unknowingly, many of us got sun burnt during the late morning swim.
We hired a driver on 2 occasion, one is to the night market and dinner place (650,000 dong), the other is for 4 hours of free and easy drive around (850,000 dong).
The night market was a disappointment. It was a small area filled with street food and local products. We completed the walk in less than 30 mins. We chose to visit honey farm, peppercorn farm and pagoda among the many touristy areas. After 4 hours, we were all screaming to go back and rest. The heat is killing us.
We agreed to pick a cooler place next year.
